Typing speed is measured by (typed) characters per minute (cpm). An average computer user who did not learn touch typing can achieve 100-130 cpm. A user who has learnt and mastered touch typing can easily achieve 200-250 cpm and with more training and application this performance can be improved to even 300-400 cpm.
Attention! Speed is not the key factor of touch typing. It is only a useful "side effect" of it. Touch typists look only at the display: they don't have to look back and forth between the keyboard and the display therefore they don't get tired during their work.
It takes about 90 seconds for an average touch typist to complete this test.
